I am a Pacific Northwest native transplanted to the southeast for 36 years. In 2012, I returned to my childhood home and fell in love with this corner of the country again. I am a grandmother, a storywriter, a teacher, an attention payer, a hiker, and a back roads wanderer.

Ha! Love this! My husband is a fighter of moles as well. He’s found success with the sonic thingy…our moles must be more sensitive than yours. 🙂

Lucky husband, and you. The pest guy says they get used to anything. Apparently in a nano-second. 😦

The have won the war. I gave up last year. Now I just shovel up the dirt, cuss, and chuck it.

They ate the tops of the tomatoes I transplanted next to my fence 🙂 You are nicer than I am. They get lots of apples around here. Usually they would have lots of grass; not so much this year

I’m right behind you, Gretchen. Just cleared about ten mole hills yesterday…found five more this morning. Sigh. My heart goes out to you.
But the biggest devastation in my garden this year has been by a mama deer and her two adorable babies. I saw the slow mowing down of kale, broccoli, lettuce and spinach, even raspberry leaves and green bean plants were mowed down. It seems the only things they didn’t favor were cukes, Hubbard squash, and tomato leaves. Then I saw mama walking her two babies across my driveway a few days ago on their way down to the creek and I was smitten. Let them have as much as they need to survive — I know I’m already supplying their apple needs. I’ll plant a much bigger garden next year so there’s plenty for all of us.
