Wordless Wednesday

The fireplace in 1960.
The fireplace last night. Tree andirons made by my father.
The fireplace today. The inner chimney was crumbling; this was the best solution. I’m sad, but it’s not as bad as I imagined.

    1. No, it’s a wood insert. I had to have a chimney liner. A chimney liner has to have something to connect to. Hence the insert. No more crackle, won’t be able to hear it behind the door. It will be heat efficient, I suppose. Sigh. It feels hulking at the moment. I guess I’ll get used to it. It might be too late in the season for its maiden run.

  1. I feel like it fits the aesthetic beautifully. It will never be the same as before, but I like it! Isn’t is amazing how many things we grieve as we move through life? It still draws the attention with that beautiful brick work. Classic.
