I am a Pacific Northwest native transplanted to the southeast for 36 years. In 2012, I returned to my childhood home and fell in love with this corner of the country again. I am a grandmother, a storywriter, a teacher, an attention payer, a hiker, and a back roads wanderer. Check out my website (and my memoir) at www.gretchenstaebler.com.

I know you went through and noted number of hikes, but have you ever totalled up the miles? You’ve had a couple really good years! Brava☆

Sadly, I have not tracked it. I have a friend who used to live in Colorado and knew exactly how many miles were on her boots. I noted that, but did I ever start doing it? No. At least if I did, I didn’t keep doing it. This year I am!

You could probably figure it out, although I’m imagining you’d rather be hiking than counting. Since It’s relatively early in the year I think I’ll try to count mine too!

I could get an estimate, I suppose. But I take spurs or don’t go to the end, or make wrong turns and backtrack, or wander around. You know. Haha.

Haha, that IS your signature way after all. True adventurer. I try to use my GPS for mileage but then forget to turn it off so it logs dozens and dozens of miles, haha.

Alas, my hiking boots failed because I *didn’t* use them!
